Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS)

The core responsibility of the Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS) is to leverage coolant as a medium for promptly transferring heat generated during the battery's charge and discharge cycles, thereby ensuring operation within an ideal temperature range for optimized performance and prolonged lifespan.

Its principal components comprise:

  • Coolant Circulation Pump: Functions analogously to a traditional car's water pump in new energy vehicles, circulating coolant within the battery pack for uniform heat dissipation and stable battery temperatures.
  • Battery Cooling Plate/Heat Exchanger: Strategically situated near the battery pack, it facilitates the exchange of heat between coolant and the ambient environment (air or refrigerant), effectively cooling the battery.
  • Temperature Sensors: Placed at vital points within the battery pack, these monitor real-time temperatures and relay the data to the control system, enabling precise cooling system adjustments.

Equally significant is the cooling system for the motor and electronic control unit, which encompasses:

  • Motor Cooling Circulation Pump: Specifically engineered for the motor and electronic control systems, it maintains coolant circulation around these components to expedite heat release.
  • Heat Exchanger: Connects the cooling circuits of the motor and electronic control, effectively radiating the generated heat.
  • Thermal Management System Controller: Consolidates temperature data from multiple sensors, intelligently orchestrating the operations of pumps, fans, and heat exchangers to execute an efficient cooling strategy.

Moreover, the optional heat pump system, besides conditioning the cabin, excels in efficiently harnessing exterior heat in cold climates to warm the battery pack, thereby curtailing direct electric heating energy usage and enhancing winter driving ranges.
